Session 9

Sky plus caught this a week or two ago. The Scifi Channel premier of the fantastic Session 9. A twisted little horror movie with David Caruso from CSI: Miami.

Session 9 tells the story of a group of guys who have won the contract to clean out hazardous asbestos from an old mental asylum that closed down years before.

The film is absolutely absorbing and it is very easy to believe that you are watching a drama and not a horror movie as the characters are well constructed and believable. There is little blood and gore, but plenty of intrigue and suspense in it’s place.

As a result, the movie takes time and dedication from the viewer, this is not one to watch between dashes to the fridge to get another beer, or answer the door to the pizza man.

The title comes from a stack of recorded interview sessions with one of the asylums inmates, as the sessions are listened to events unfold with the clean up crew, until they come to a head with the last session, Session 9.

I saw this film on DVD years ago and it left its mark as one of the more memorable films I have ever seen. This is an absolutly hidden gem, if you haven’t seen it, rent it, buy it or wait for it to come back to Scifi Channel again.
